Sustainability at Bally

Bally has been committed to responsible business practices since our inception in 1851. In the company’s early years, founder Carl Franz Bally pioneered modern employee benefits including an on-site canteen, health care and pension plans. Though Bally is now a global luxury fashion brand, we remain true to our values, with a renewed determination to do better for our planet, product and people. As the world changes around us, so do the expectations of our consumers and stakeholders. As a result, we’re strengthening our commitment to transparency, sharing our actions and progress in our annual Sustainability Report, and participating to initiatives such as the annual review led by the Fashion Transparency Index, and projects led by The Fashion Pact.

Our Sustainability Roadmap

Following a 2019 internal baseline assessment, we identified four sustainability pillars for us to focus on across the company: Transparency, Quality, Collaboration and Progress. By charting critical courses of action and setting short and long-term goals within these business areas, we aim to mitigate our environmental footprint and promote social and economic well-being. Our Sustainability Reports, published annually, share our year-to-date performance and track our progress towards the goals laid out in the roadmap. Join us in our ongoing commitment to being a more respectful and responsible business.

Our Sustainability Pillars

I. Transparency

Transparency is a key driver for Bally’s sustainability. Since we began our path in 2019, we have strongly believed in the importance of giving evidence of our actions. For this reason, not only we publish our Sustainability Report annually to provide updates on our sustainability journey, but we also provide further information through our website. Our Code of ethics, as well as the Supplier code of conduct and the Restricted substance list which all suppliers must abide by are publicly available. Since 2021, we also publish a list of the main Tier 1 and 2 suppliers that are active in Bally’s supply chain.

II. Quality

Bally’s products are synonymous with quality, craftsmanship and timeless design. We continuously collaborate with our suppliers to get the very best raw materials, without compromising on social and environmental respect. In 2022, Bally developed a new Preferred Material List, a tool that will support us in choosing materials even more carefully, with the aim of having at least 90% of our materials classified with a preferable attribute – “Preferred” or “Good” - by 2028. We also extend the lifecycle of our pieces through customer care and assistance services.

Our Sustainability Pillars

III. Collaboration

Bally takes pride in collaborating with numerous initiatives and projects that support local and non-local communities, creative talent, and the environment. Through the Bally Foundation, founded in 2006, we promote contemporary artists with ties to Switzerland, and support cultural innovation expressed through artwork. In 2020, the Bally Peak Outlook Foundation was established with the aim of helping protect the world’s fragile mountain habitats from the adverse effects of global warming and excessive tourism; the foundation collaborates with numerous projects and organizations. Bally also supports many local organizations such as Il Porto di Coenzo, which empowers people with disabilities. Finally, through the through the Bally Employees Resource Group (BERG), we organize activities that bring our employees and the local community together.

IV. Progress

Building on our long history of innovation, from processes to materials and design, Bally’s future depends on our ability to accelerate change and find unprecedented solutions that can bring distant goals within reach. In 2022, Bally returned to the Milan Fashion Week with runway shows, and we concurrently unveiled a new logo to rejuvenate its brand identity. In the same year, we proudly sourced responsibly – FSC or PEFC certified and/or recycled – 99% of our paper packaging, signed the fashion industry’s first Collective Virtual Power Purchasing Agreement, and defined our new Preferred Material List.
